Effect Shop is a 2D and 3D compositing and animation program that is designed to be easy to learn and use.
The simple interface focuses on the task at hand and minimizes visual clutter, allowing users to focus on their projects. All effects are rendered in real time so that users can preview and adjust the result immediately.
Effect Shop contains tools for adding special effects to video projects. Bullets, laser blasts, or flares can be added using image overlays. Lightning bolts, explosions and environmental effects can be added with video overlays. By projecting video onto three dimensional shapes it can be distorted to simulate lenses, or perspective and rotation. Stretching video can make actors gain or lose weight.
Two different key filters enable users to create altered realities. Actors and props can be projected onto foreign backgrounds, or behind transparent foregrounds. Rigs and other unwanted props can be removed from video by using overlays to cover them.
Complex titles and transitions can be designed using the key frame animation tools. Two dimensional and three dimensional geometric shapes plus text can be animated. Key frame animation can be used to animate colours, positions and orientations.

Composite video. Stack and animate multiple layers of video and three dimensional shapes.
Project video. Video can be projected onto two and three dimensional shapes without distortion. Shapes change their dimensions when video is projected so the shape dimensions match the video dimensions to prevent distortion.
Simple interface. Despite all of its advanced features the user interface is designed to be easy to learn. By learning four concepts and three interface areas you can start working on your project sooner and spend less time thinking about how the program works.
Advanced manipulators. The gnomon object handle enables you to rotate, resize and move objects by dragging the mouse. Beginners can use a single mouse button while power users can take full advantage of a multi button mouse.
Key frame animation. Animate objects by defining parameter values at key frames. The system will smoothly fill in the values between keys.
Parameter graphs. View a graph of parameter values to see how they change over time. Select and edit key values and times.
Shape layers. Shapes can be rendered in one of four layers: background, foreground, default or glass.
Multiple shapes. Nine basic shapes can be modified to produce many combinations. Project your video onto sphere, cube, text, disc, three types of canvas, tube and cylinder shapes.
Configurable shaders. Use shaders to control a shape's colour and how it responds to light. Shaders can paint objects a single solid colour, wrap a video or image onto a shape or simulate the way light falls onto the object. Shaders can make objects shiny or transparent to simulate exotic materials like glass.
Textures Textures can be video or still images, and are used by shaders to paint onto the surface of shapes.
Recognize transparency. Transparency information stored in images and videos will be recognized and allow background objects to show through.
Mix frame rates. Combine video with different frame rates in a single scene.
Filter textures. Still images and video can be passed to filters that read the input texture and generate an output texture. Multiple filters can be chained together to create complex effects.
Key filters. Two kinds of key filters, chroma key and colour key, can make solid colours in the image transparent.
Comprehensive documentation. The user manual describes how all aspects of the program work in a reference section and describes how to perform many common tasks in the help section.
