updateFinder is a stay-open applet that tries to get the pre-Tiger Finder to show up to date information on how much free disk space is available. For reasons beyond me the Mac OS X pre-Tiger Finder doesn't do this by itself.

To use itiInstall wherever you want (~/Library/Scripts would make sense) and make sure it is always running.

Known issue: having any file (not a folder) selected in a Finder window will make the Finder not update that Finder window.
