Retrospect Express Edition is available exclusively with leading hardware manufacturer backup devices and is designed for home environments. It protects a single Windows or Macintosh desktop or notebook computer by backing up to internal and external hard drives and CD/DVDs.

Retrospect Express delivers proven data protection capabilities in an easy-to-use software package.

Limitations:
Registration screen at startup.

What's New:
Adds Mac OS X 10.4 support.
Allows Retrospect Express to use Xserve RAID devices, as well as hard drives connected to the backup server via USB, FireWire, Fibre Channel, ATA, or SCSI, as destinations for removable disk backup sets. Previously these drives (with the exception of FireWire and USB) could only be used as the destination for file backup sets. Since removable disk backup sets support asynchronous data transfer (and file backup sets do not), this preference provides improved data transfer speeds. To access this preference choose Special>Preferences>Media Handling. When this preference is selected, all local volumes (except the startup disk) will appear in Retrospect Express' Storage Devices window (Configure>Volumes). These volumes will also appear in the media request window for removable disk backup sets, and they can be selected as the backup set destination.
WARNING: Retrospect Express requires exclusive use of any volume selected for use in a removable disk backup set and it erases the volume entirely before using it the first time.
There are some limitations to consider when using hard drives as removable disk backup set members. Retrospect Express will only write 1 TB of data to any single member. After 1 TB it will ask for a new member and span to that member, regardless of how much available space remains on the previous member. If you have a large capacity hard drive that you want to use as part of a removable disk backup set, partition the drive into segments of 1 TB or less for optimal use with Retrospect Express.
Apple Xsan and UFS support: Retrospect Express 6.1 adds support for the Apple Xsan and UFS file systems. Retrospect Express can now protect files and folders stored on Xsan and UFS volumes, as well as store file and removable disk backup sets on these volumes. Retrospect Express has some limitations when working with Xsan and UFS volumes:
Retrospect Express should not be installed on onto an Xsan or UFS volume.
File and folder creation dates are not supported. When Retrospect Express restores or duplicates files and folders with creation dates to an Xsan or UFS volume, these dates are not preserved.
Access Control Lists (ACLs) are not supported. When Retrospect Express restores or duplicates files and folders with ACLs to an Xsan or UFS volume, the ACLs are not preserved.
Duplicating files and folders containing extended attributes to an Xsan or UFS volume will result in compare errors if verification is enabled.
Defining subvolumes on an Xsan or UFS volume is not recommended. Retrospect Express relies on certain directory information to match subvolumes to folders. Since Xsan and UFS file systems handle this directory information differently from other file systems, there is a possibility that defined subvolumes could be matched with the incorrect folder, potentially resulting in data loss.
