Dashboard is a great addition to Tiger. Unfortunately it takes several seconds to load and refresh the widgets the first time you bring up Dashboard.

I've written a small application that brings up Dashboard and closes it right away: DashboardStarter (24K). Drag the app to your login items ( System Preferences › Accounts › Login Items) and have Dashboard load the widgets in the background.
