You power on your Mac and, when startup is completed, you notice from the displayed flag on the menu bar that your keyboard layout currently set is Ancient Swahili (!); we never set the computer preferences to this layout, and it is not listed in the favorite languages.

You power on your Mac and, when startup is completed, you notice from the displayed flag on the menu bar that your keyboard layout currently set is Ancient Swahili (!); we never set the computer preferences to this layout, and it is not listed in the favorite languages. So where did it came from?

This is a recurring problem of OS X, since 10.0 and still not solved; it generally happens when one of your "Startup Items" (applications that are launched automatically at startup; e.g. antivirus, support software for scanners, multifunction printers, graphic tablets, fax, etc.) does not support our language and so it forces the system to set the keyboard layout it prefers (but we do not). Often this problem does not happen on every startup, but randomly.

As I stepped into this problem too, and having followed all suggestions found here and there on the net with no permanent success, I wrote SetKbd.

SetKbd forces the system layout to be the one WE choose, independently from what the other startup items ask.

What's New:
Added startup delay.
Now you can call the Preference window pressing the command (apple) key at SetKbd startup.
