I decided to create a file split and recover application when I have forced to move a >800 Mb file from a PC to my loved Apple iBook. Of course, I had no DVD burner, and I'd like to split my huge file in smaller chunks.
After having searched the web I realized that there wasn't an application suitable for my needs: some applications were not free, some did not work on both (Windows and Mac OSx) platforms and most of them did not provide a simple way to recover the original file from the created fragments.
In fact, the problem of recovering the fragments is not difficult to solve if someone is used to DOS and unix shell, but I wanted something that could be used easily from everybody.

It has been tested for cross platform use, this means that you can split a file on Mac and join it elsewhere e.g. on Windows
