Created for individuals who want to secure private email, selected files, and AOL® Instant Messenger™ (AIM) traffic, PGP Desktop can be used by both casual and power users. Specifically designed for individuals who send email through an Internet Service Provider (ISP), PGP Desktop provides email security for casual users who want to configure their security settings once and then forget about them as well as power users who want to work with a sophisticated array of configuration options.
The completely redesigned PGP Desktop 9.0 incorporates PGP Universal technology to provide automatic encryption, decryption, digital signatures, verification, and recipient key lookup, making it appropriate for both novice and power users.
The most significant PGP Desktop product upgrade ever offered, PGP Desktop 9.0 will change the way people use encryption. Requirements:
PGP Desktop supports the SMTP, POP3, and IMAP4 protocols. The following email clients are supported:
Apple Mail 1.3.9
Microsoft Entourage 2004
Other email clients using the supported protocols may work, but have not been certified for use.
Instant Messaging Client Compatibility PGP Desktop supports the following instant messaging clients when encrypting AIM instant messages, file transfers, and direct connections:
iChat 2.1
AIM 4.7
Other instant messaging clients may work for basic instant messaging, but have not been certified for use. Encryption of file transfers and direct connections requires AIM 5.9.3702 on Windows or iChat 2.1 on Mac OS X. Audio and video connections are not encrypted by PGP Desktop.
Note that continued interoperability with the AIM service may be affected by changes made to the underlying AIM protocols after PGP Desktop is released.
