Mountain Climbing Journal is a free general purpose journal application released under the GPL that categorizes keywords based on a user chosen list of categories, as well as by person, place, thing, and time. The keywords are generated by simply highlighting the keyword and clicking the appropriate icon. Navigation of the resulting collection of keywords and articles is quick and easy, with the keywords showing up in red in the journal entry box when chosen.

I have made this application using icons that are not specific to a particular language. I also provide Windows, Mac OS X, and GNU/Linux versions of the program. The application is a single executable that fits on a diskette when compressed.

I have struggled for many years to weave various journal entries into a coherent story, as well as reclaim links between memories and journal entries. Not only does this program fit the purpose of a personal journal well, but the means of classification fits with other bodies of knowledge. For instance, maintaining a journal for network administration, general household operation, or even a fictional basis for a book would be greatly assisted by this application.

Keeping a journal means quite a bit to me. For more on what I think this means, why I call this a mountain climbing journal, and what the hexagram means in the application, see K?n.
