LogOutScreenSaver is designed to automatically log a user out after their session goes idle for an administrator defined time.

Unlike similar applications available for Mac OS X, LogOutScreenSaver logs users out as cleanly as possible. If your setup uses LogoutHooks, they will still be executed when the user is automatically logged out.

The actual logout process is the same as if you chose to logout from the Apple menu, or Login Window... from the Fast User Switching menu, making this much more graceful then other scripts/programs out there. Other software uses the method of killing the loginwindow process. This can lead to corruption of your hard disk and frequent kernel panics. With LogOutScreenSaver, you will not encounter any of these problems.

LogOutScreenSaver is perfect for lab/cluster environments.
Thanks to Mac OS 10.4 your unsaved work can be saved when L.O.S.S logs you out! LogOutScreenSaver is an essential piece to an elaborate puzzle.
