I found out how to restore the images using a hex-editor, but it turned out to be pretty tedious. This was the moment when the idea for “Exif Untrasher” was born.
Exif Untrasher enables you to recover trashed digital camera images.
This application was developed and tested with a Nikon Coolpix 4300 on various systems from Mac OS X 10.2.6 up to 10.4.3. Users reported successful restoration of images taken with the following cameras (some of which were connected using an external card reader):
