VTexture is an Illustrator plugin which creates natural-looking textures as Live Effects from gradient-filled art. The textures are created as paths ( no pixels allowed! ).
Play with the settings and the gradient to create an endless selection of beautiful effects.

Procedural textures have been used for a long time ( by the standards of computer graphics that is ) in the 3D world where they are used to create effects such as fire, woodgrain, and marble. VTexture allows you to create such textures in Illustrator where they are rendered with paths as opposed to pixels.
