VirtualKeyboard is an on-screen keyboard that offers point-and-click typing using pointing devices such as a head pointer, mouse, trackball, etc. This program is designed primarily for disabled person but it can be used also to teach the children to write, to prepare kiosk environments, etc.

To use VirtualKeyboard simply click on the keys on the on-screen keyboard, each keypress will be sent to the active or front-most application.

As with a real keyboard, to get uppercase characters you click Shift first, or to type in all uppercase, click Lock. Similarly, the other qualifier keys work as expected, even outside of VirtualKeyboard.

Here are some key features of "VirtualKeyboard X":
The on-screen keyboard visualizes correctly all the combinations of the modifiers keys (shift, option, etc.) and of the "dead keys" (apex etc...).
VirtualKeyboard supports the keyboard layout of all languages which use Roman alphabet.
"Click and Hold Mouse Button to Access Contextual Menu". If you have a one-button mouse, you can open the contextual menu in the Finder, simply keeping pressed the button of the mouse.
"Self-minimizing keyboard". This function automatically reduces the keyboard size if it is not used for a determined period of time. This time can be chosen by the user.
"Label". You can type text you use frequently (like a return address, letter head, signature, ecc.) into all Mac OS X applications simply select it from Label menu.
It is possible making the keyboard transparent (0-90 %).
Visual and sound feedback.
Vocal synthesis: you can activate both the pronunciation of single letters and the reading of all texts in the notes box.

Limitations:
It is a shareware application and can be freely used for 14 days.
After this trial period, if you wish to continue using it, you must register.

What's New:
Universal Binary.
Autoclick feature: an user can write just by letting the mouse hover a key for more than 1 second.
Multiclick feature: if an user holds the mouse button down on a key, it repeats.
Improved interface: now includes a Toolbar with the buttons Label, Cut, Copy, Select All, Paste, Preferences, Minimize.
Now the minimized keyboard can become transparent.
You can organize a set of labels in groups and select directly the group from the Labels menu.
"Safe Mode" is a function that allows to disable some keys of the keyboard and also to lock the keyboard on the screen. This characteristic can be useful to prepare kiosk environments, to use touch screen, etc.
