ScreenCaptureGUI is simply a graphical front end to Apple's command line "screencapture" utility.
The main reason to use ScreenCaptureGUI is its ability to easily take timed screen captures while you have a DVD paused or playing in Apple's DVD Player application. As you've probably noticed, whenever there is a playing or paused DVD, even non-copyrighted DVDs or ones you've created YOURSELF, you CANNOT take screen captures via the keyboard, eg, command+shift+3, OR with Apple's "Grab" Utility.
