rtf2txt is a shell utility which reads RTF, HTML, DOC (only on OS X v10.3) and/or plaintext from one or more files, converts it to plaintext, optionally changes its encodings and writes it to STDOUT.
In order to batch-convert thousands of a client's RTF files into plain text, I needed a shell program running on Mac OS X. As I didn't find any convincing solutions (apps like “UnRTF” or “RTFeeder” don't handle German umlauts correctly), I ended up writing one myself.
Thanks to the Cocoa framework used, the program can not only handle RTF, but also HTML and DOC (only on MAC OS X 10.3) files.
What's New:
improves handling of non-ASCII-characters in paths and filenames when the terminal encoding is not MacRoman.
