PowerRIP X is a complete redesign of the previous PowerRIP 2 version. It uses Apple's OS X, ColorSync, and CUPS (The Common Unix Printing System) to create a seamless printer integration within the operating system.
PowerRIP X creates accurate color or black and white proofs for graphic artists, photographers and printers from applications such as Quark 6, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Freehand. OSX by itself does not include, in versions 10.2 or 10.3, any built-in PostScript RIP for your printer with accurate color profiles.
PowerRIP X drives 69 Epson printers including the Stylus Color 3 and the new 4 as well as HP and Canon printers This is a new approach to PostScript printing. Now to setup PowerRIP X you only need to create a printer, one time, in Print Center and choose it in your application. Apple's Print Center on 10.2 or the Printer Setup Utility on 10.3 combine with CUPS to auto launch the PowerRIP application, which runs until the file is printed, PowerRIP then goes away until it is needed again. Printers can be driven by USB, USB to parallel, and Ethernet via TCP/IP, AppleTalk, and ATPrint.
What's New:
This Version 7.31 supports all previous features. Version 7.31 adds support for the automatic insertion of colour bars on all proofs. iProof supplies two colour bar designs and a use can choose which one they might want ot use. Both designs cover all colour tints that a press man will check while running a press job. Because of this these color bars enable press operator to quickly evaluate the accuracy of you inkjet proof. Users can also insert their own custom color bars or modify the iProof ones adding their own logs and pertinent information. Even third party colour bars available from organizations such as FOGRA may be added. iProof's colour bars are free to all PowerRIP users. Version 7.31 is for Mac OS 10.4, 10.3 and 10.2 workstations, and/or OSX Server version 10.4. A Universal PowerRIP X Client is available for Intel Macs on OSX 10.4 and up, as well as all other PowerPC Macs on version 10.2 to 10.4. This Universal PowerRIP X Client can be downloaded and installed separately on Intel Macs to be used with previous versions of PowerRIP X.
