Opal is an outline processor. It lets you organize just about anything — reports, ideas, lists, projects, graphics — in the form of an outline, where topics have subtopics.

Opal’s elegant, uncluttered interface stays out of your way so you can capture notes efficiently. You’re free to organize — and reorganize — however you like.

You can always find information later, through fast filtering or using Spotlight. Or keep it out of your way by shrinking long topics or focusing on part of a document. Prioritize lists with flexible sorting. Track projects with smart checkboxes. Multiple selection lets you work faster. Streamlined and responsive, Opal is truly your digital notepad.

Opal will be familiar to anyone who ever used the popular and reliable Acta outliner. However, it’s been completely rewritten for Mac OS X

Outliners manage hierarchical lists. This may sound boring, but Opal makes it fun! Word processers may display outlines, but can’t effectively edit them. Outliners let you focus your attention on just the right context, and let you reorganize while keeping the outline structure intact.

Here are some key features of "Opal":
Multiple selection
Topic filtering via toolbar Search field
Multiple Undo
Auto-save
Focus on a subset of the outline
On-screen magnification
Background colors
Improved checkboxes
Spell checking
Mix text and graphics in a topic
Auto-grow
Read/write OPML outlines
HTML output.

Opal is a Universal build (PowerPC and Intel), and requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

Limitations:
You may try Opal without obligation for 30 days. You will still be able to open (and even edit) any outlines you created, but you won’t be able to print them or save any changes (after 30 days). At any point, you can buy a license, using its built-in secure web store.

What's New:
the UI can be simplified
text pasted from Safari behaves better
exporting multiple-paragraph topics is improved
outlines are slightly smaller on disk
OPML support is enhanced
some commands are faster
minor bugs ad memory leak fixed.
