Designed especially for users of Leister Productions' Reunion genealogy software, FolderUpdater is a "web folder synchronization" utility. But it doesn't exactly synchronize folders in the traditional sense. It compares each file and/or folder found in a selected "New Files" folder to each one in a selected "Old Files" folder.
It doesn't examine modification dates, but rather looks at a file's contents. For files that aren't text (e.g., graphic images like GIF or JPG), it determines whether the two files are of equal size first. If they are, then the file's contents will be compared one character (or byte) at a time. For text files (intended for HTML files), each line will be compared. Any HTML comments will be removed (internally only -- no files will actually be changed) before comparing lines. HTML comments are anything beginning with the characters "", but only if both of these appear on the same line.
If you tell FolderUpdater to look for a Reunion "Created by" date, then these will also be internally removed before comparing lines. If the "Old Files" version is different, the one from the "New Files" folder is copied there and today's date/time put into its Date Modified field. When finished, FolderUpdater will display a list of files and folders which have had items updated, added or deleted.
