English-Italian Dictionary is an application for Mac that combines all the necessary for students learning Italian: a comprehensive and up-to-date dictionary with grammatical notes; an ample phrase book containing thousand of English phrases with Italian translation; an exhaustive business dictionary helping you to write commercial letters, send emails, and make phone calls in good Italian.
You can listen to the English vocabulary if you want. You can type or copy other English text into the find box and the program will read it aloud. You can copy words and phrases from the application and paste them into another document. You can easily create additional dictionaries files to supplement the dictionary and the phrase book provided with the program.
You can use the program in several ways to help you to study grammar. The Italian translations include information about whether the English word is a noun, an adjective, a verb – sometimes it’s all three! You can search for grammatical abbreviations, like "av" for "avverbio" and the dictionary will display dozens of English adverbs with their Italian translations.
Limitations:
English-Italian Dictionary is shareware and so, until registered, a reminder window appears and forces you to wait for some seconds every time you open the application, some translations are not available and the features for printing and reading text aloud are unavailable.
What's New:
This release fixes a bug that prevent users to register the application with some particular systems to unlock the features reserved to registered users and includes some minor interface tweaks.
Note from the product team: this application is a PowerPC-based application, we are working on making it Universal (which means made to run natively on both Intel- and PowerPC-based Mac computers), in the mean time, you can use it with some decreasing of performance with Intel-based Mac thanks to Rosetta technology (which is built into Mac OS X and dynamically translates this applications to work with Intel-based Mac).
