What are .DS_Store files?
They contain non-essential data for the Mac OS X Finder, such as how the Finder should display the contents of a folder. The Finder usually hides these files. But if you look at the folder from a non-Mac OS X computer, any .DS_Store files will be visible. This can be a concern if you're burning a data CD, uploading a folder to your web site, or sharing a folder through Windows File Sharing.
