STXT to utxt is a OSAX that converts styled text ('STXT') to Unicode ('utxt' or 'utf8'). The conversion takes care of Mac encodings in the styled text, including Mac Symbol (Symbol), Mac Dingbats (Zapf Dingbats) and so on.

Command
This osax adds 'utxt from STXT' command and 'Unicode from STXT' command. The two commands are the same except that the latter allows you to specify various options (such as requesting UTF-8).

Coercion
This osax also adds capability (coercion handler) to coerce styled text to Unicode text or «class utf8» (by ‘as’, without specific command).

However, the coercion handler of 'STXT' to 'utxt' added by this osax is not actually used by recent versions of AppleScript (1.4 (or so) or later). In that case, the coercion is done inside system (in AppleScript or OS) and specific Mac encodings such as Mac Symbol won’t be cared.

In AppleScript earlier than version 1.3, you can specify the 'Unicode text' class as "class utxt".
