A small gear, and a ruler which has a hole where the gear rolls about.
Put the point of pencil in a small hole on the gear, and roll it.
We have then a beautifully drawn flowery pattern ("spirograph").
The software Spirographer is a thing like that.
You will really roll it, and I believe you'll enjoy it intuitively.
(you can draw it with specifying the number: gear's radius, etc.)
Here are some key features of "Spirographer":
Change the size of gear, and that of the hole where the gear rolls about.
(You can even enlarge the gear larger than the hole. Try it!)
Auto-Rotation mode - when you are fed up with rolling the gear with the mouse. Space bar.
Change freely the color of the pencil and the paper.
Auto-Coloring mode - draw automatically with rainbow-like colors.
Make tick-tack when the gear rolls. (Mac; there's also the silent mode)
Save the design in a file
(JPEG(Mac/Win), PICT(Mac)/BMP(Win), EPSF(Mac)).
Limitations:
You may evaluate Spirographer for up to 30 days without registering it. During the evaluation period, some of functions (save, print, etc.) are restricted.
