Sound Studio is an audio recording and editing app for the Mac OS.
It allows you to take full advantage of your Mac's built-in sound recording and playback capabilities, to digitize your collection of vinyl and tapes, to do live recording of audio, to edit new and pre-existing digital audio, and to save your audio in AIFF or Sound Designer II format to be used in other audio apps.
This beta version exipres on August 1, 2005, and does not require a registration code to run. The version 2.2 beta 1 is not a complete application yet and has some known issues.
Here are some key features of "Sound Studio":
Recording:
24-bit / 96 kHz sample quality, in stereo or mono
Low latency monitoring, using Core Audio
Automatic recording starting and stopping based on timers or audio levels (a.k.a. VOX)
AppleScriptable recording and playback
Editing:
Sample-accurate edits
Markers (a.k.a. Cue Points) with text labels
Time ruler with units for video and film
Dual waveform view: upper overview shows entire file, lower view shows magnified view of audio
Copy-and-paste editing
Basic mixing edits
AppleScript support for many commands
Effects:
Dynamics: Compressor, Expander, and Noise Gate
Equalization: Graphic EQ (3-band, 10-band, 30-band), Low Pass, and High Pass
Delay: Chorus, Flanger, Echo, and Reverb
Volume: Amplify, Fade In/Out, and Normalize
Repair: Interpolate, Silence, DC Offset, and Swap Channels
Repair clicks and pops by interpolating samples or silencing them
Tone, FM, and noise generators
Adjust Pitch by changing the speed at which the audio plays back

Apple AIFF (.aif) and AIFF-C (.aifc) with compression including IMA 4:1
Audio CD tracks (import only)
Windows WAVE (.wav, uncompressed only)

Limitations:
The free trial download is fully-functional for 15 launches.
Requirements:
500 MHz PowerPC G3 or faster processor with 512 MB TAM
Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later. Works on Mac OS 10.4 "Tiger."
QuickTime 6.5.2 or later. Works with QuickTime 7.
1.2 GB free hard disk space for recording and editing each hour of audio with standard settings. Additional hard disk space required for additional recording and editing capacity.
