appHop is a wrapper around Spotlight which limits searches to applications only. You start to enter the name of an application and Spotlight searches for it on your computer. When you have entered enough of the application's name to uniquely identify a single application, the app is then automatically launched by appHop.

For example: I have two applications on my computer one called TextEdit and the other called TextWrangler and I want to launch TextEdit. In appHop I type "text" and nothing happens because two results are returned by Spotlight and appHop isn't sure which one to launch. But I then type the next letter "e" and have "texte" and TextEdit will start up--enough of the name is provided to uniquely identify the application.  If later I add an application called, for example, TextExtract-- I will start typing TextEdit and when I've typed "texted" then TextEdit will launch. More letters are now required.
