Anyone with clinical experience knows that the use of medical abbreviations in patient charting is becoming more and more prevalent as the time demands on health care providers increase. It is a great convenience to be able to use a TLA (three letter abbreviation) instead of writing out an entire phrase. However, the use of these short cuts can often generate confusion because different abbreviations are standard between various institutions and even between different specialties within the same institution. Health care practicioners, and especially students, can waste a lot of valuable time trying to figure out what unfamiliar abbreviations mean. Even worse, one can make a dangerous medical error if one misinterprets an abbreviation.

I have collected these abbreviations throughout my medical school training. I belive Medical Abbreviations 2.1 is unique in that it not only contains all the standard abbreviations for common disease entities such as PCKD, but it also the only database that was developed to specifically contain all the common shorthand abbreviations used in note writing such as AOx3, NC/AT, RRR, and MAEW. This clearly makes it the most useful software title of its kind. I created this database in order to especially help those medical students struggling through their clinical clerkships, and that is why I am distributing it for free.
