SysStat includes a built in update checker which will notify you of any updates that are available(requires access to latte.altit.com/islayer.net).

This dashboard widgets program is freeware, so you can download and use it absolutely free. SysStat 2.0 supports different languages (including english). It works with Mac OS X.
