SpongePACS 1.1 is scientific software developed by Michael Banks.
SpongePACS was designed to handle the diagnostic image CDs, otherwise known as DICOM CDs, that medical offices receive from outside facilities.
As most offices have begun to realize, the use of these DICOM CDs is becoming more prevalent. Even though the images can be viewed, the ability to manage the images and CDs is difficult at best. We have designed a system that will work with any practice, large or small, to handle digital images that are brought into the office. No more storage rooms, searching for CD’s or attempts to manually manage files and folders. We have developed a FileMaker based, database solution to import the images and store them in a logical manner in a Digital Archive. Other images can be 'soaked' or imported into the system, including, jpg, png, tif, bmp, pdf, mpg, and mov files. Therefore, digital camera photos, scanned images, and other image types can also be stored for the patient.
Another concern for US users is HIPAA and security, and we utilize a password protected, user database that has an audit trail to provide HIPAA compatibility and security.
On the Mac, we utilize Osirix as the viewer for DICOM images. On the PC we use DicomWorks as the viewer for DICOM images. The other graphic formats are viewed with the default application for each type.
