Compactor provides support for the following formats:
• .zip
• .tar.gz
• .tar.bz2
• .dmg
• .dmg-bz2 (.dmg with bz2 compression, only OS X 10.4 can read this)

Warning, the command line tools that handle .zip, .tar.gz, and .tar.bz2 (that Compactor uses) aren't alias friendly and will remove them from any archives you create.
This mac program is freeware, so you can download and use it absolutely free. Compactor 0.8 supports different languages (including english). It works with Mac OS X.
