happydigger 2.1 is archeology software developed by Joop Stakenborg.
Happydigger is a program which you can be used for cataloging archaeological finds. happydigger project is intended both for semi-professional use and by amateurs (e.g. metal detectorists) who want to keep track of their finds.

Data is stored into a database with extensive find and findspot details. If images are available, they will be displayed together with the find information.

The user interface is available both in english and dutch.

Requirements:

  • You need the gtk+-2.0 and sqlite development libraries and headers to compile happydigger.

    Installation

    The simplest way to compile happydigger is:

    1. `cd' to the directory containing the package's source code and type `./configure' to configure the package for your system.

    2. Type `make' to compile the package. Happydigger needs the gtk+2.0 and sqlite development headers and libraries to compile. A package called pkg-config is also needed.

    3. Type `make install' to install the programs and any data files and documentation.

    4. When you want to strip the binary when installing, just type: `make install-strip'.

    By default, `make install' will install the package's files in `/usr/local/bin', `/usr/local/man/man1', `/usr/local/share/happydigger', etc.
    You can specify an installation prefix other than `/usr/local' by giving `configure' the option `--prefix=PATH'.

    Usage

    The program is navigated by clicking the toolbar buttons. Button usage is explained with tooltips.

    The first 6 toolbar buttons can be used to browse the database. Next, there is a group of 3 buttons which can be used to apply changes that you have made to the record, delete a record and add a new record. The last group of 3 buttons will show a list view of all records, the preferences dialog and the help dialog.
